EARTH PROTECTORS
As the original stewards of our territory, we are the Earth Protectors of the lands and waters.
Working with partners, we have developed co-stewardship agreements to steward lands protected by the Nature Trust of New Brunswick.
When we are on the land, we work on the following stewardship activities:
Monitoring species of cultural importance and collecting occurrences;
Monitoring Species at Risk as stated by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC);
Baseline Surveys;
Boundary Monitoring;
Installation of Yellow Hunting Disks;
Integration of Indigenous and Western Knowledge Systems.
With securement of future funding, we aim to develop an Indigenous Earth Protectors to support Peskotomuhkati Youth and ensure that knowledge and language is exchanged with Knowledge Keepers and Elders.
The Earth Protectors will steward the IPCA focusing on wildlife monitoring, key cultural plants and animals, invasive species removal, and traditional hunting/gathering/fishing permitting system.
To ensure protected lands are stewarded for the next seven generations, we commit to raising funds to ensure that the lands and waters are forever cared for.
